FAQs
What level of drummer do I need to be to attend a camp?
All Levels of players are welcome to a Thomas Lang Drum Camp. Being the world’s leading drum educator, Thomas is able to adjust the curriculum to impact every student simultaneously. Exercises will be modified to accommodate and challenge each player. This is your opportunity to step over obstacles holding you back from drumming to your full potential. Thomas can take a common theme and apply it to each player’s unique needs.
Do I need to read music? Will there be printed material?
It is not necessary to read music. The syllabus for each camp is curated by Thomas to meet the changing needs of the attendees. He will be sharing a lessons on a white board that you can take pictures/notes of if you read music. Thomas will be breaking down these exercises in a way that is comprehensive for everyone, whether you read music or not.
How long is the camp?
Our daily classes are scheduled from 9am - 6pm with a one hour lunch and a couple short breaks in between. Our timing is flexible according to the needs and flow of the camp. Sometimes everyone wants a longer break so we will run late at the end of the day to make sure you get your full 8 hours of education.
What can I expect at the camp? What does a typical day look like?
Thomas creates a very supportive environment and expertly adjusts the curriculum to meet the needs of all the campers. We will have a DW Go Anywhere Kit (quiet practice pad drum kit) for you to play on so you can work along side Thomas and the other campers. Thomas will run you through many different exercises and lessons curated uniquely for each group. No two camps are ever the same. If someone’s skill set is far above or behind in a certain area, Thomas will modify the exercise for that person so they can still participate and be challenged. You are encouraged to ask questions and engage. No question is silly. Everyone is here to learn together and grow as musicians. Expect a great bonding moment with other drummers and a wealth of knowledge to take home.
What is included in the camp fee?
We will provide a DW Go Anywhere Kit (practice pad kit) and drum throne. You can bring your favorite double bass pedal or you are welcome to rent one from us to use during the camp.
What do I need to bring?
Please bring a notepad, pen/pencil, double bass drum pedal (you can rent a double pedal from us if you wish), drum sticks, snacks/beverages of your preference, a good attitude, and you may want a sweat towel. What’s the general atmosphere of the camp? Is it competitive?
Our camps are supportive and comfortable environments that build great camaraderie between students. Each attendee has different needs and playing abilities. The common thread is the love of drums and the desire to improve. Every musician has faced challenges with their musical growth. These camps are the perfect place to work through those challenges and elevate your playing. This is your personal journey, not a competition. We are here to help you reach your goals and make sure you have fun doing so.
